Cannabis plants contain naturally occurring compounds called cannabinoids. CBD, which is short for cannabidiol is one of the many cannabinoids found in hemp and marijuana plants and is desirable among those looking for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, spasms, and other conditions without disconcerting feelings of lethargy or dysphoria.
Where is hemp grown?
As previously mentioned, cannabidiol products sold in the United States can be sourced from hemp or marijuana plants grown either domestically or internationally. For legality purposes, many CBD products (containing less than .3% THC) are sourced from industrial hemp. Fourteen states within the United States can legally grow and process industrial hemp and hemp seeds. These states include California, Colorado, Kentucky, Oregon, and Tennessee.
Many CBD companies source their industrial hemp grown with organic practices, but hemp, in general, is not a USDA certified organic product. Moreover, it is recommended that you choose a CBD product made from NON-GMO, pesticide-free, industrial hemp that is tested consistently for contamination to ensure safe consumption. When selecting a CBD product, make sure the company uses a safe solvent and a verified extraction method.
Extracting CBD from hemp
CBD can be extracted from marijuana or industrial hemp plants. For legality purposes, many CBD products are extracted from the stalks and stems of industrial hemp plants which are cannabis plants with .3% THC or less so they qualify as “industrial hemp”. Once cultivated, cannabis plants are lifted from the ground and brought to an extraction facility.
Ethanol and C02 extraction are two commonly used methods for extracting CBD and are two of the cleanest ways to extract CBD for human consumption. CO2 extraction, a popular extraction method typically used when extracting smaller quantities of hemp, involves filtering plants through a series of chambers that control temperature and pressure. When different temperatures and units of pressure are applied to cannabis plants, this sophisticated system is able to isolate cannabinoids at a 90% efficiency.
An alternative method is ethanol extraction which involves introducing the solvent ethanol to the hemp plant in order extract cannabinoids. Unlike CO2 extraction, you are able to produce a very high volume of full spectrum extract with this method. Ethanol also removes unwanted components such as chlorophyll from dried hemp when performed at very cold temperatures.
Once extracted, hemp undergoes an additional step known as chromatography, a mechanism used to remove unwanted plant phytochemicals from the extracted oil. Cannabinoids like CBD have a strong interaction with chromatography media, thus traveling slower than unwanted plant material like chlorophyll which has a weak interaction. Once divided, cannabidiol and other terpenes can be isolated and undesirable plant material can be disposed of.
Many CBD oil products also undergo what is known as decarboxylation. This involves heating the cannabinoids into a form that allows the cannabinoids to immediately interact with the endocannabinoid system making the compound more usable throughout the body. When the extracted oil is decarboxylated it is converted from CBDA to CBD, thus removing the acid form so it’s readily bioavailable.
Once decarboxylated, the CBD hemp oil can be consumed directly, however it may not have a favorable taste. Instead, this oil can be mixed with a carrying oil such as hemp seed or coconut oil, turned into CBD capsules, or processed into a powder or slab isolate form for consumer use.

CBD Infused Steak and Veggie Buddha Bowl
The sixth recipe in the CBDelicious Cooking Series, Cooking with CBD. Looking for a healthy dinner option? This incredibly delicious, and easy to make, CBD Infused Steak and Veggie Buddha Bowl is an excellent source of protein paired with the 99% pure CBD isolate.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (204 C) and arrange sweet potatoes and onions on a bare baking sheet. Drizzle both with a bit of oil, making sure the flesh of the sweet potatoes are well coated. Roast for 8-10 minutes. While vegetables are roasting, heat a large skillet over medium heat and add chickpeas to a mixing bowl and toss with seasonings. Once hot, add 1 Tbsp oil and chickpeas and sauté, stirring frequently. If they’re browning too quickly, turn down heat. If there isn’t much browning going on, increase heat. I found 10 minutes total at slightly over medium heat was perfect. Once the chickpeas are browned and fragrant, remove from heat and set aside. Remove veggies from the oven after 8 – 10 minutes and flip sweet potatoes and add broccolini. Drizzle broccolini with a bit of olive oil and season with a pinch each salt and pepper. Bake for another 8-10 minutes, then remove from oven and add kale. Drizzle kale with a touch more oil and season with a pinch each salt and pepper. Bake for another 4-5 minutes then set aside. Prepare sauce by adding tahini, agave, lemon juice and CBD Isolate to a mixing bowl and whisking to combine. Add hot water until a pourable sauce is formed. Set aside. To serve: Divide vegetables between serving bowls and top with chickpeas + tahini sauce. Top with grilled steak. Best when fresh, though leftovers will keep for a few days in the fridge. There will most likely be leftover sauce, which can be added to leftovers or other meals.
1. Preheat oven 400° F. In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese, jack cheese, and CBD Isolate until well blended. 2. Roll out the crescent rolls and using a pizza cutter or knife, cut into long pieces lengthwise. 3. Fill each jalepeño half with the cheese mixture. Wrap each jalapeño half with the dough, leaving a space for the eyes. Use two pieces of dough if necessary. Brush with egg mixture and place on baking sheet. 4. Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes. Remove from the oven and press the eyes into the cheese where the opening is. Serve and Enjoy!

40 million Americans suffer from an anxiety disorder, making them one of the most common mental health illnesses in the country. Millennials have even been dubbed the anxiety generation, with numerous studies showing that this generation suffers from anxiety at a much higher rate than others. Today, you do not have to be diagnosed with one of the eight categorized disorders to be plagued by the most common symptoms of anxiety. Worried about money, work, friends, family, love, your health, etc.? You may find yourself sweating, crying, heart beating rapidly, with the inability to control your breathing. These are among the most common, unpleasant symptoms of anxiety.
Luckily, there are numerous, natural ways to subside the effects of feeling anxious, all of which have little to no side effects. Here are 5 of our favorites.
Mindful meditation is the practice of training the brain to stay in the moment. One of the largest contributors to anxiety is the inability to rid the mind of thoughts from the past or fears regarding the future. Dr. Elizabeth Hoge, a psychiatrist at the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders explains, “People with anxiety have a problem dealing with distracting thoughts that have too much power. They can’t distinguish between a problem-solving thought and a nagging worry that has no benefit.” Mindful meditation, which can be practiced at meditation studios or from the comfort of your home teaches the brain to refocus on the present when thoughts are wandering. What is CBD Hemp oil? Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the naturally occurring compounds found in cannabis plants. Unlike Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the compound associated with marijuana’s psychoactive properties, CBD does not cause a “high” effect and can offer relief and benefits without the disconcerting feelings of lethargy or dysphoria. Cannabidiol (CBD) interacts with the endocannabinoid system, a collection of cell receptors and corresponding molecules in the human body. This system helps to regulate pleasure, pain, mood, and stress response among other things. When CBD products like CBD oil are used, the cannabinoid levels in the endocannabinoid system reach homeostasis, allowing for a healthy stress response.
Get up and move! Science has proven time and time again that people who are physically active have lower rates of anxiety and depression compared to those who are sedentary. Exercise helps to overcome anxiety symptoms in several ways. First, inactivity of the body creates tension which can lead to symptoms of anxiety. The next time you are feeling stressed, go for a brisk walk, even if it is only for 10 minutes. Additionally, exercise promotes the production of serotonin and decreases the amount of cortisol in the body. Both of which aid in the body’s overall levels of stress, tension, and fatigue. Regardless if you choose to practice yoga, join a gym, participate in a team sport or just walk your dog, getting into a routine of daily exercise will avoid symptoms of inactive anxiety as well as promote a healthy stress response.
As previously mentioned, feelings of anxiety often stem from overwhelming negative thoughts or concerns about certain circumstances going on or could potentially happen in your life. The practice of feeling grateful is an incredibly simple way of diverting your negative thoughts into something positive. Do you have a roof over your head? A family and/or group of friends that love you? A talent or characteristic that makes you unique? The next time you are overwhelmed by the negatives in your life, redirect your thoughts to those things you are grateful for. In fact, according to one study conducted in 2005, making a daily habit of writing down what you are thankful for, will contribute to your overall happiness immediately as well as in the days and weeks after.
Limit caffeine and alcohol
Both caffeine and alcohol are stimulants which can stimulate your “fight or flight” response making your anxiety worse. Some people with social anxiety will turn to alcohol, not realizing that this stimulant can worsen the side effects of anxiety. This is the same for caffeine. One too many cups of coffee in the morning can perpetuate those uneasy feelings that stem from feeling anxious. Rather than reaching for a caffeinated latte in the morning, try sipping on some camomile tea, which the UK’s University of Nottingham Medical School has determined to decrease anxiety and even fight depression significantly.

Rave Reviews explains, they researched the 20 Best CBD Oil Products on the market, so their viewers can make an informed choice when purchasing CBD. The focus was on the 20 companies you’re likely to find when you search for CBD online.
In order to rate the companies from best to worst, Rave Reviews looked at four categories:
Value: how do their prices compare to the average?
Concentration: do they offer a wide variety of potencies, for customers with different kinds of needs?
User Experience: how easy is it to navigate their website and find the information you need? How is their branding? Do they provide helpful educational information for customers who might be new to CBD? Do they offer a risk-free warranty?
Quality: do they test their products to verify their quality and consistency? Do they make these results easily available to consumers?
“With its geometric logo and masculine font, this company’s product line would be right at home in a skate shop. Tinctures all come in 15 milliliter bottles, with CBD content moving from 250 to 500 to 1000 milligrams per bottle.
Prices are quite impressive, ranging from $20 to just $60 for a whole 1000mg of CBD. It’s worth noting that all of their tinctures (as well as nearly every other item on the site) appear to be currently on sale. Unlike most other companies, they also include 3rd party lab results right on their product pages, so you know the quality you’re getting.
While the company’s tinctures contain full spectrum CBD, CBDistillery does offer CBD isolate in powder and crystal form. They also sell products compatible with vape pens, topical creams, capsules, dabbing options, CBD for pets, and hats and shirts.”

We recently conducted a survey where we asked CBDistillery™ customers, “what is the primary benefit you received from CBDistillery™ products?” Not to our surprise, we received a variety of answers, no two entirely alike. What immediately sparked my attention, were the comments from customers stating something similar to, “I didn’t get any relief” and “it helped a little but not as much as I’d hoped.” The majority of the feedback we receive from CBDistillery™ customers on a day-to-day basis is how CBD has changed their lives for the better. So why does CBD impact some and not others? Why does cannabis affect people differently?
To get some answers, I took to the Internet and found several studies about why cannabis products affect users differently. Apparently, I am not the first person to ask this question. Even the ‘father of THC,’ Rafael Mechoulam was curious about how this newly discovered molecule would affect different people. Thus, one evening he invited over a few of his friends for some cake, which little did they know, was laced with 10mg of pure THC. A few of his friends felt ‘strange, in a different world,’ while some couldn’t stop talking or giggling. While the scientist now understood the cannabis compound, THC does, in fact, cause different reactions, it wasn’t until years later that we would figure out why. Here is a look as to why all cannabis (marijuana or hemp derived) products affect people differently.
About 20% of the population has good endocannabinoid genetics. These people were born with a genetic mutation that increases the level of endocannabinoids and levels of anandamide (the so-called bliss molecule) naturally occurring in their system. As a whole, the endocannabinoid system is partially responsible for regulating sleep, appetite, mood, motor control, immune function, pleasure, pain, reproduction and fertility, memory and temperature regulation. When someone consumes cannabis, the cannabinoids, like THC and CBD, replace the naturally occurring endocannabinoids in your body. Thus, if you are among the lucky few that have this genetic mutation, you are most likely less inclined to feel the effects of CBD because your body already naturally produces a similar result.
Men vs. Women
Cannabidiol products affect men and women differently. Research shows that estrogen makes females more sensitive to cannabis. That time of the month? Washington State University found that women are impacted more by THC a day or two before ovulation, because of the peak in estrogen levels.
Biochemistry, the study of chemical substances and vital processes occurring in living organisms is yet another explanation as to why people react differently to CBD products. No two individuals have the exact biochemistry make up, which affects the way substances metabolize throughout our system. The health of one’s endocannabinoid system plays a significant role in this. As previously mentioned, the human body naturally produces endocannabinoids. Things like diet, stress, and overall lifestyle influences endocannabinoid levels. When consuming cannabis products, you are increasing endocannabinoid levels. For individuals who have deprived levels, cannabis consumption will most likely produce a favorable experience, whereas someone with healthy endocannabinoid levels might not “feel” the effects of CBD or other marijuana products.
Someone who is using cannabis products to treat symptoms for a disease or disorder is going to have a very different experience than someone using cannabis recreationally. When someone is fighting off an ailment or illness, that individual’s biochemistry and endocannabinoid levels are altered, thus, potentially producing a different effect than if that person’s endocannabinoid levels were replenished.
It is relatively well-known that over time and continued use, one will most likely build a tolerance to THC. Yet, in one study conducted in 2011, findings suggest that one may not build a tolerance to CBD. However, more research needs to be done to prove this theory.
