Tell Congress to Protect Access to CBD

Instead of industry regulations to protect customers, recent legislation could restrict your access to CBD.

From Andy Papilion, CBDistillery Co-Founder

In 2016, I and some other Colorado natives founded CBDistillery based on the idea that people have a right to high-quality, fairly priced, US-grown, hemp-derived CBD products. CBD products were still uncommon then, and stories like that of Charlotte Figi, the young girl whose parents gave her CBD as a last resort when every other treatment for her serious seizure disorder had failed, were still new. (You can read more about Charlotte’s experience and legacy here.)

I am extremely proud that after 10 years, we continue to earn your trust and support your wellness. But right now, we need your help. At the end of 2025, Congress approved an appropriations bill that contained severe regulations on hemp and CBD products, including limiting total THC to 0.4mg per container. If this law goes into effect in November, it will greatly limit your access to hemp-derived CBD and make 75% of our products illegal to sell.

How Can I Help?

Your voice matters! Follow these simple steps to tell your elected officials to support reasonable regulation of hemp-derived CBD while protecting consumer access instead of restricting it.

  • Click here to find your elected officials in the Senate, and click here to find your elected officials in the House of Representatives. (You can use the “Find Your Representative” box in the upper right corner to look up your officials in the House of Representatives by zip code.)
  • From the results, click the name of your Senator or Representative.
  • You will then be taken to the webpage for your elected officials. Find the link to contact them.
  • Fill out your information, including your name and contact information. Don’t forget to include your address, so your elected officials know you are one of their constituents!
  • Click the “Copy Message” button on this page to copy the suggested message we’ve pre-written for you, and paste it into the comment field for your elected official.

As a resident and voter in your district, I am asking you to support amendments to the appropriations bill passed in late 2025 that would remove the bill’s extreme THC limits. These limits are not based on scientific or medical guidance, but will take away access to the safe and effective CBD products that I, like many of your constituents, benefit from. It will also take away jobs from more than 300,000 hard-working U.S. citizens, and hurt U.S. hemp farmers.

Instead of extreme THC limits, please focus on common-sense regulations that will keep your constituents safe, like restricting the sale of hemp products to adults at least 21 years old, mandating independent third-party lab testing to ensure safety, and uniform labeling so customers like me can more easily make informed choices.

Thank you for protecting jobs, farms and your constituents who rely on access to hemp-derived CBD.

What Happened?

In late 2025, Congress approved an appropriations bill to end the government shutdown which included regulations for hemp and CBD products. The bill restricts the total THC allowed to 0.4mg per container of CBD products. This small amount of is less than what is traditionally seen in a single serving of our Full Spectrum hemp CBD products, and could also affect products containing minor non-intoxicating cannabinoid such as CBN, CBG, CBDV and more.

What Does This Mean for CBDistillery and My Favorite Products?

Since these regulations will not take effect until November of 2026, they are not currently affecting product availability. However, we are working with other companies as part of the OneHemp coalition to help lawmakers better under the hemp/CBD industry and to support regulations that improve this industry without restricting your access to Full Spectrum hemp products. While we don’t believe the extreme THC limits in the appropriations bill are the answer, we do support regulations requiring third-part testing, restricting synthetic intoxicating cannabinoids, requiring clarity in labeling and enacting age requirements – all things which create a safer, more transparent CBD industry while still preserving your access.

And that’s where you can help! Please join me in contacting our elected officials and asking them to protect your access to hemp-derived CBD products (as well as the jobs of more than 300,000 hard-working industry employees).
