I tried Microdose Synergy+ for two weeks. Here’s what I found
Back in February, we released Microdose Synergy+ tinctures and softgels, the latest in CBDistillery®’s line of THC-centered products. If you’re unfamiliar, our Synergy+ family combines carefully measured servings of naturally occurring, hemp-derived Delta-9 THC with CBD and other cannabinoids to enhance the wellness benefits of each compound.
Our Unwind gummies are great for kicking back and relaxing at the end of the day, and Deep Sleep is specially formulated for a knockout night of rest. But what's Microdose?
Microdosing is, at its base level, taking small enough amounts of an otherwise intoxicating substance to experience the health benefits without the intoxication. THC is, of course, the compound found in small amounts in hemp and concentrations in the marijuana plant that can get you high, but it’s also been shown to have a great deal of upside from a wellness perspective.
So with that in mind, our product team distilled the Microdose range so that CBD users could incorporate the health benefits of THC into their daily routines without having to worry about intoxication during the course of the day.
But enough of the marketing speak! It’s just me and you here, and you clicked into the blog because you want to know what it’s like in practice, so let’s dive right in. First, some details.
Method: As we learned in a 2019 survey of 1,900 CBDistillery® customers, CBD users found that they felt the benefits of daily use sooner and more consistently than those who used CBD on an as-needed basis. To that end, I made sure to take the Microdose Synergy+ tincture every morning between 8 and 9am for two weeks to really give my body the best chance to get accustomed to interacting with the product.
We offer Microdose Synergy+ in tincture and softgel form factors to suit individual preferences. I chose the tincture for this road test, partly because I enjoy the hemp taste (the softgels are flavorless) and partly because each serving of the tincture features 2mg of Delta-9 THC per dropper. I’m a pretty big guy so I wanted to make sure I had every opportunity to start at a solid initial serving size so I could adjust from there.
I started the two-week Microdose Synergy+ trial run on a Monday morning so that I would have something to focus on (writing content for CBDistillery®) as a baseline for “how I feel.” With an almost-3-year-old in the house, weekends can be a little chaotic and I figured I’d be best served to have a few hours of quiet time immediately after taking the tincture so I could pay closer attention to any potential effects.
I held one dropper – a 1ml serving, which contains 30mg of CBD and 2mg of THC – under my tongue for about a minute as noted in the product directions, then swallowed the oil and went about my day. It happened to be a particularly busy day of work and at around 3pm, when I was all set to get the kiddo up from her nap, I realized that I’d been extremely focused and productive.
Obviously I can’t attribute that to a single serving of Microdose Synergy+, but it gave me something quantifiable to keep an eye on going forward.
Completely unplanned, this little product test coincided with the start of my second week of a workout routine after being out of action with an injury for a while. If you’ve ever taken a break from exercise and then got back into it, you’ll be intimately familiar with the idea of delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS: the temporary discomfort that comes from using muscles that have been, uh, dormant for a while.
I’ve been consciously not pushing myself too hard because, at the age of 37, I’m not as physically capable as I used to be in the gym. The first week wasn’t so rough, but those post-workout aches really kicked up a notch in my second week when I started lifting a little more weight each session.
I know that one of the most common benefits our customers mention in their product reviews is that they experience less discomfort after physical activity, so that gave me another measurable benefit to remain on the lookout for.
At the one-week mark, I decided to up my serving size by a half-dropper in the mornings to see whether I could identify any marked difference. For those counting at home, this is 3mg of THC and 45mg of CBD every morning. For extra context, I’ve been using THC edibles for several years and enjoy Unwind Synergy+ gummies most nights after I put my daughter to bed. One Unwind gummy with 5mg of THC is enough to make me feel the effects of the THC, but even after upping my Microdose serving size to 3mg of THC in the mornings never made me feel even a hint of intoxication.
Let me reiterate that I’m a big guy and the impact of THC is different for everybody, so please keep in mind that taking more than the CBDistillery® recommended serving size is a personal decision and not one that I’m recommending everyone do.
The old saying goes, “you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone,” and it took me a few days to notice not what the Microdose tincture had brought to my overall health, but what wasn’t there anymore.
By the end of the first week I had already begun anticipating post-workout relief and some extra mental calm, but the realization that I wasn’t feeling those muscle aches or the usual workday stressors didn’t dawn on me until I had a lightbulb moment and noticed they were largely absent.
The two-week mark is a few days behind me now, and I’ve kept a dropper and a half of the Microdose Synergy+ tincture in my daily routine. From a physical standpoint I definitely feel the post-gym discomfort is either lessened or gone altogether, and I’ve certainly felt as though I’ve had more mental clarity throughout the day as well as a calmer outlook in the evenings, which is customarily a chaotic time before the baby goes to bed.
It pays to remember that cannabinoids interact differently between individual to individual, and my experience with Microdose is in no way indicative of the benefits other users may enjoy.
One thing that bears repeating, I think, is that even after upping my serving size to one and a half droppers – 3mg of THC per day – I never felt anything resembling the intoxicating effects of the compound. If you’re on the fence about trying Microdose Synergy+ during the day, remember that the tincture is designed to offer adjustable servings so you can choose the dose that’s right for you, and the softgels only contain 1mg of THC per serving so you can really ease into it.
If you decide to incorporate Microdose Synergy+ into your daily routine and enjoy it, we’d love to hear from you too! You can leave a review on the product page so other potential customers can get an idea of what they can expect.
