CBD Topicals FAQ

  • What Are CBD Topicals?

CBD topicals are CBD-infused products formulated for external use. Using a topical product allows you to deliver the therapeutic potential of CBD directly to the areas of your body you need it most.

Many CBD topicals are formulated with essential oils and other botanicals selected to enhance product performance. Topical CBD products can be used on their own or to complement the effects of using other CBD products. For example, if you're using a CBD tincture or capsule to ensure you're getting your daily serving of CBD, you can still use a topical salve, cream, or lotion for its targeted effects. Having the option of using multiple products makes it easy to tailor your CBD usage specifically to your needs as they change.

  • How Do CBD Topicals Work?

Skin is a complex, active structure involving many smaller organ systems, including hair follicles, sweat glands, oil glands, and an immune system. The receptors that respond to the CBD in your topical are present in nearly every type of skin cell.

Although CBD topicals can be used for many of the same reasons as ingestible products, many people are using CBD topicals specifically formulated for the health and appearance of their skin. This is because topical CBD has the potential to soothe and restore balance to distressed skin. When using topical CBD, be sure to apply your product liberally.

  • What's the Difference Between CBD Salve and CBD Cream?

While their purpose is similar, CBD salves and CBD creams are different in texture and appearance. One is formulated to absorb into your skin quickly, the other is much thicker and formulated to maximize the amount of time the CBD and other botanicals remain on the surface of your skin.

CBD topical salves are made with a combination of oils and waxes that form a semi-solid base. Since they are not as easily absorbed, salves are the best option if you are looking for a topical that provides long-lasting benefits. Many CBD salves also contain a selection of botanical oils and other ingredients selected to complement the product's therapeutic potential.

CBD topical creams are more likely to contain a blend of oils and water. The water content makes CBD topical creams ideal for hydration, lubrication, and protecting skin from moisture loss. Some topical CBD skincare creams are formulated with botanicals selected specifically for their ability to nourish and soothe your skin.

  • When and Why Should You Use CBD Topicals?

CBD topicals can be used any time you feel you might benefit from their therapeutic potential. If you are using topical CBD to care for your skin, you can use your CBD cream in the same manner as any other cream or lotion you may be using to alleviate dry skin, soothe irritation, or protect your skin from the signs of aging.

Most people find that the effects of CBD topicals last nearly as long as ingestible products, but they notice the effects much faster. If you like, you can use topical CBD multiple times throughout the day to keep the effects going strong. If you are using topical CBD for your skincare needs, you can use your product the same way you would use any other cream or lotion. For best results, be sure to apply a liberal amount of your CBD salve or cream to clean, dry, skin, so dirt and debris don't inhibit product absorption.

  • Our CBD Topical Product Process

CBDistillery™ products require the highest quality hemp extract. High-quality hemp extract begins with non-GMO hemp seeds planted in soil that has been tested for heavy metals, chemicals, or other potential toxins. To ensure we are harvesting the best hemp available, plants are grown using natural farming practices to keep the soil, and our crops, contaminant free.

Once harvested, the cannabinoid-rich oil must be extracted from the plant. Since some extraction processes can leave potentially toxic residue in the final product, we use food-safe extraction methods, CO2, and ethanol. Once separated from the plant matter, the crude oil is distilled, a process that purifies the extract without compromising potency.

To create your CBD topical, the distilled hemp extract is combined with several plant botanicals. For example, CBDol, our topical CBD salve, is a blend of full-spectrum hemp oil (CBD), beeswax, and several plant extracts selected for their soothing properties. Our CBDefine Skin Care Cream contains a blend of plant oils and extracts selected to ensure the cream is an ideal addition to any skincare routine. Both products contain 500 mg of CBD per jar. All products are tested by an accredited lab to ensure they meet our quality control standards.

  • How Does CBD Work?

CBD works by interacting with the receptors of the largest regulatory system in your body, your endocannabinoid system (ECS). This essential communication system is a complex network of messengers and receptors which helps regulate nearly every crucial function in your body, including the processes responsible for immune system function, pain perception, inflammation, emotional responses, memory, and more.

The communication between the messengers and receptors of your ECS keeps essential functions balanced and working as they should. If the effects of illness, injury, or stress create a demand for ECS messengers that exceeds the supply, communication stalls, and essential balance can be lost.

That's where CBD comes into the picture. CBD (cannabidiol) is just one of more than 100 potentially beneficial cannabinoids found naturally in industrial hemp. Cannabidiol mimics the effects of the endocannabinoids made in your body and relays urgent messages to your ECS receptors. Supporting ECS function with CBD can help restore essential balance.
