Recently we’ve been working with Melissa Wood-Tepperberg, a movement and mindfulness expert who incorporates CBDistillery products into her sleep routine. On behalf of her audience, she asked us some questions about the basics of CBD which we (of course) were glad to answer!
----------
Q: We’ve heard a lot of success stories with CBD, and I know my personal “why” for taking it, but can you explain why most people take CBD?
A: One of our favorite parts of what we do is reading customer testimonials, and stories about how we have been able to improve their quality of life. It’s so inspiring and rewarding to hear that we have empowered someone to take control of their health in a more natural way, and to have given them hope.
Here are some of the most common reasons for people (and pets!) to incorporate CBD into their wellness routines:
Better sleep
Consequence-free relaxation and stress management
Mental clarity and focus, mental health support
Immune support
Relief from pain after physical activity, better mobility
Relief from mild or temporary anxiety.
Q: It sounds like CBD helps with so many different things. How can one thing have so many benefits? How exactly does CBD work in your body?
A: You may or may not know that everyone has an endocannabinoid system (ECS). We are literally built for CBD! We love seeing doctors learn more and more about the ECS and begin turning to CBD as a recommendation to their patients.
CBD interacts directly with the ECS in our bodies. Many people are surprised to learn that your ECS is the network of receptors and messengers that regulate many vital processes in your body helping to maintain homeostasis, such as:
Pain after physical activity
Mild Stress
Inflammation after physical activity
Motor Control
Nausea
Memory
Appetite
Mood
Immune Function
The messengers manufactured by your body are made as needed and broken down quickly by enzymes. When your body cannot produce enough messengers (neurotransmitters) on its own, the communication system can fail.
CBD works by mimicking the messengers and influencing the receptors of the endocannabinoid system. By supporting this regulatory system's functions, CBD can provide many health and wellness benefits.
Q: There are literally thousands of supplements on the market. Knowing what to take is so overwhelming! How is CBD different than other supplements and why should everyone be using it?
A. We get this question a lot. Unlike many other wellness products available today, CBD addresses the root cause of your issues rather than masking the symptoms. It does this by working alongside your endocannabinoid system to help you achieve homeostasis, or mind-body balance. CBD is an adaptogen and can take some time to get incorporated into your system, it’s not a quick fix but more of a long-term commitment to your health and longevity. It keeps the wheels greased, so to speak, and makes sure everything is running smoothly.
Q: Almost everyone has heard of CBD, yet there’s still so much confusion around how it is different from marijuana. I know a lot of people, like me, don’t want to get high. Can you explain the differences?
A: I am so happy you asked this question, because to your point there is still a lot of confusion! Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of more than 113 naturally occurring compounds found in the hemp plant. Hemp plants and marijuana plants are both members of the cannabis family but have different chemical makeups. The marijuana plant contains high concentrations of THC, the psychoactive ingredient responsible for creating a “high.” The hemp plant contains high volumes of CBD and much smaller quantities of THC. This means, when consuming CBD you will benefit from the wellness properties of the hemp plant without the high effects THC provides.
Q: Let’s talk about dosage. What is the recommended serving size and how much CBD should I take?
A: CBD interacts with everyone's system differently. Dose depends on body mass, metabolism, what you're using it for, etc. That’s why we recommend starting low and slow. To find your perfect CBD serving size, start with 20-30mg of CBD, wait 3-4 hours, then increase as necessary to achieve desired effects. The recommended serving of CBD is 30-60mg daily. Individual results may vary – so a great hack that we like to share is to keep a journal for the first week or so of using CBD. Track time of day, dose, and how you felt. This makes it much easier to look back on your personal data and figure out your sweet spot.
CBD is an adaptogen, and takes a little time to get into your body and begin to provide relief. If you want to see significant benefits, commit to taking CBD every day or night (depending on what you are using it for).
Q: I have been loving your shhh Distilled Sleep tincture with CBN + CBD, and sleep is such a hot topic in 2024. Sleep really is the most important thing and it’s so great to see more people prioritizing it than ever. Can you explain how CBD supports sleep?
A: What we love most about CBD is that it supports your natural sleep cycle. This means that you are still experiencing the full range of light to deep REM sleep all throughout the night. This allows you to wake up rested and energized rather than groggy or hungover like with other sleep aids. Our sleep products also contain CBN alongside the CBD. CBN is the cannabinoid in the hemp plant that is known to promote restful sleep. Our sleep products will help put you to sleep and keep you asleep all night!
According to participants in a 2021 study we conducted, our Shhh Distilled range of products have been shown to help consistent users achieve an extra hour of sleep per night on average.
Q: There are so many CBD brands in the industry it is hard to know where to start and how to pick a trusted brand. What things are most important to consider and what sets CBDistillery apart?
A: Not all CBD brands are created equal, that’s for sure. We hate to hear when someone’s experience with CBD has been tainted because they used a brand that was not honest about the amount or quality of the CBD in their products. As one of the “OGs” in the CBD space, we have seen many brands come and go. What has allowed us to remain one of the most trusted brands in the industry is our unwavering commitment to the quality, purity and efficacy of your product.
